WARDROPE & FLOOR PLAN
The non-commercial dike and faggot disco de Trut was founded in the early eighties. The founders were all in some way committed to the gay struggle and furthermore felt themselves part of the squatting scene. They realized, however, that living as a dike or faggot and squatting were not always closely connected. In the same period the squatter’s disco Fluks was started in the Tetterode squat on the Bilderdijkstraat, but being a squatter’s disco, a lot of the regulars were dikes and faggots.
Soon the need for a dedicated space for dikes and faggots became apparent. We wanted our own place together as dikes and faggots to dance and be ourselves in an environment where the dike and faggot culture was dominant. The Fluks volunteers were all for the idea of a dike and faggot disco and offered the space and the inventory of the Fluks for this new initiative. In December 1985 De Trut was a fact. After some time the Fluks ceased to exist, and De Trut continued as a non-commercial dike and faggot disco.
The non-commercial dike and faggot disco De Trut was founded in the early eighties. Profit was never the main goal of De Trut. From its beginning until the present, good atmosphere, good music, affordable prices and a safe environment where dikes, trans people, and fags can party together has always been first and foremost. But because all the employees of De Trut work on a voluntary basis, the costs are relatively low and a nice profit can be made. According to the statutes of De Trut, that profit must be solely used for the benefit of small-scale dike, trans and faggot activities.
Without advertising and due to low drink prices De Trut’s popularity was instant and continues till this day. The disco is operated by a group of approximately twenty volunteers who not only ensure that the Sunday evening is nice and comfortable but also do all of the other tasks that need to be done to run De Trut. Drinks have to be ordered, technical maintenance has to be done, new volunteers have to be found and “hired”, administrative tasks have to be done, special events have to be organized and, last but not least, the profit has to be accounted for and given out as subsidies by the committee of De Trut Fund Foundation. As previously mentioned, due to De Trut’s low costs and popularity, considerable funds have been generated for homo-emancipatory projects.

We would like to welcome you every Sunday night from 22:00 to De Trut, located at the Bilderdijkstraat 165 (MAP)
We have a few rules that are explained here below. If you choose to come to our party we expect you to be aware of and follow the rules.
* DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS OR MAKE FILMS
Because: We want to create a safe place for and by faggots, dykes, and transgenders, irrespective of who you are, where you come from, or where you are going. It is not self-explanatory that someone in De Trut is ‘out of the closet’. To create a safe space and respect everyone’s privacy, we absolutely do not want photos taken or films made in De Trut.
* NO HARD DRUGS ALLOWED
Because: It’s forbidden by law. If hard drugs are found to be present by a random check, the city council can shut us down. The same is true for (not) SMOKING, but we have a smoking room.
* BE CONSIDERATE OF OUR NEIGHBORS
Because: De Trut can only stay open if the neighbors do not find us a nuisance. So, if you’re standing in the line, throw your trash in the trashcan instead of littering on the sidewalk. When you leave De Trut, be quiet and please do not hang around by the door. Our neighbors (with children) are sleeping on the street-side and can easily be woken up by you.
* RESPECT EACH OTHER AND THE TRUT VOLUNTEERS
If you are harassed as a dyke, trans, or fag in De Trut, please inform one of the volunteers, and we will do something about it. If a volunteer reminds you of one of the rules, please be respectful. If you fail to obey the rules or show any disrespectful behavior, then you will be asked to leave De Trut. Furthermore, visitors who deliberately and/or regularly violate the rules risk being permanently refused entrance to De Trut. Aggression and violence always result in being permanently refused entrance to De Trut
By paying for the entrance ticket you accept our rules and regulations. The rules and regulations are visible in De Trut and can be found at the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce.
* TURN OFF AND DO NOT USE MOBILE PHONES
Because: We find it irritating and asocial if people are constantly calling, texting, facebooking, twittering, etc. instead of interacting with each other in De Trut. If you would like to jot down someone’s address or phone number, you can get a pen and paper at the bar. This rule is also important, as almost every telephone has a camera, which is also not allowed.
DE TRUT DOES NOT HAVE A (GUARDED) WARDROBE! CLICK ON THE PICTURE ABOVE TO SEE WHERE THE COATRACKS AND COATHOOKS ARE LOCATED.
NEVER LEAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT/VALUABLE IN YOUR JACKET! IT IS NOT SMART TO BRING AN EXPENSIVE COAT OR JACKET AND HANG IT UP. UNFORTUNATELY THINGS CAN BE STOLEN FROM DE TRUT!
